Reason templates
Write an explanation once, in every language you serve, and reviewers pick it as they decide
When a reviewer rejects somebody, the applicant is told. Reason templates are the saved explanations they choose from, so the same situation produces the same wording every time, in the applicant's own language, without anybody rewriting it at three in the afternoon.
Without them, reviewers type every explanation by hand. That works until two of them describe the same problem differently, or somebody pastes an internal shorthand into a message a customer reads.
What a template is
A name, a category, and a body written in as many languages as you serve.
The name is what a reviewer sees in their picker. The body is what an applicant reads, so write it to them rather than about them: what happened, and what they can do next.
English is required and is the fallback whenever the applicant's own language is missing. In the editor, a solid dot beside a language means that version is written.
Where they show up
In the decision panel on Manual review. Picking a reason inserts its text into the message box, and the reviewer can edit it freely from there. What gets sent is what is in the box at the moment they confirm, not the template.
One reason per decision can be preselected, which means it is chosen for the reviewer whenever they make that decision. Use it for the explanation you give most often.
A template can be tied to one flow when its wording only makes sense there. Leave it on every flow otherwise.
Retiring one
Retiring stops the reason being offered to reviewers. Decisions that already quoted it keep their record of it, so nothing already sent to an applicant changes.
Who can do what
Reading templates comes with deciding cases, because the decision panel has to load them. Writing and changing them is separate, and a reviewer who cannot author one does not carry this page in their sidebar at all. If you can see the page but not change anything, the console says so, and an owner can grant it.
A preview shows exactly what an applicant receives
Each language is rendered on the detail page as it will reach them. Read the one you send most often out loud once. It is the only piece of writing in this console that a stranger will judge you by.
